Influence of Substitutional Elements on the Ductility and Oxidation Behaviour of Fe3Al Intermetallics

  • The influence of various alloying elements, including Cr, Mo, Ti, Ni, Si, Mn on the room temperature ductility, cyclic oxidation behaviour at 800℃, phase constituents of the scale, and Al composition profile along the surface to matrix of stoichiometric binary Fe3Al intermetallics are investigated. The results indicate that only Cr improves the room temperature ductility of the Fe3Al with DO3 structure under vacuum condition, while other elements decreases the ductility in different content. The beneficial effect of Cr can not attributed to the modification of oxidation dynamics, phase constituents of the scale and surface condition leading to alleviation of environment embrittlement.
